Vascular surgery treatment a range of surgical and non-surgical options used to manage diseases of the arteries, veins, and lymphatic system. Treatment depends on the specific condition, location of the problem, and overall health of the patient.

Types of Vascular Surgery Treatments

1. Minimally Invasive (Endovascular) Treatments

These are performed through small incisions or catheters inserted into blood vessels, often under imaging guidance.

  • Angioplasty: A balloon is used to open a narrowed artery.
  • Stenting: A metal mesh tube is placed in the artery to keep it open.
  • Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR): A stent-graft is placed inside an aneurysm to prevent rupture.
  • Thrombolysis or thrombectomy: Medications or devices are used to dissolve or remove blood clots.
2. Open Vascular Surgery

Traditional surgery requiring incisions to directly access blood vessels.

  • Bypass surgery: A graft (either synthetic or a vein from the body) is used to reroute blood around a blocked artery.
  • Carotid endarterectomy: Removal of plaque buildup from the carotid artery to prevent stroke.
  • Surgical repair of aneurysms: Removing the aneurysm and replacing it with a graft.
3. Vein Treatments

Used to treat varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency.

  • Sclerotherapy: Injection of a solution to close small varicose veins.
  • Laser or radiofrequency ablation: Uses heat to seal off larger varicose veins.
  • Vein stripping: Surgical removal of large varicose veins.
